Hours of operation in the summer are 4 PM until 11 PM or later every day until the end of Labor Day weekend.
Access to the historic model railroad, featuring significant elements of the model towns of old Kennecott, McCarthy and Chitina, is during bar hours only except by prior arrangement. If you wish to view the model as a group, please contact the owner.
Viewing of the part of the model contained within the beer-garden is free when the bar is open. ADVANCE NOTICE is highly recommended since a back-up bartender is required to operate the train during times when the bar is open. A full tour with running of one or more of the trains is $20.00 for one to four persons, plus $5.00 for each additional persons. Children under 12 are free but ALL minors MUST be accompanied AND supervised by a LEGAL parent or guardian. The train is sometimes available for operation during non-bar hours, BUT it is important to contact the owner in advance to set up a tour. Guided train tours are rarely available without advance notice.
The model RR tours are generally only available late in the afternoon. You may want to consider staying overnight in Copper Center in order to allow yourself sufficient time to see and appreciate this incredibly unique set-up. We recommend staying at Uncle Nicolai's Budget Rooms.
