In the planning stage, Phase III:
Klondike Mines Railway
(<<<---click for more info).
associated model towns: Dawson, Klondike City and Grand Forks.
Layout of the three model
railway systems on the CRD grounds:
Upper left is the CRD. The green track is the original (Phase
I) line, running through the CRD bar, outside through the
McCarthy model, over to the Kennecott model where it turns
around and returns. This was completed in 2001 with additions in
2003.
The
black line represents Phase II,
which began in 2006.
This
line begins with a model railroad parking area behind the bar, then
leaves the CRD to enter the wye on the west end of the property.
The
line then heads east to the model of Cicely, which should be
completed by the end of 2008.
The
line continues to a large, 24-foot wide turn-around loop on the
eastern end of the enclosed part of the property (brown line=tall
fence).
The
dark red line at the end of the wye is a proposed extension which
links the Phase II railbed back to the Cicely model.
The
Phase III sector is all in the
planning stage. It has the dedicated ground shown on the map, but no
features as of yet.
Significant features which will appear on this railroad model
include elements of the historic towns of
Dawson City, Klondike City and Grand Forks. Other obvious
features include representations of a segment
the
Yukon and Klondike Rivers, Bonanza and Eldorado Creeks, and some
built-up hills around Bonanza Creek and the rear of Dawson City. This
is the only railroad that will be on the ground. The others are both
elevated, often accessible by catwalks since they are 7 - 10 feet
above the ground.
Map showing all three phases of the model railroad: Phase I, The
Copper River & Northwestern Railway (green); Phase II, the Great
Northern line (black); and Phase III, the proposed Klondike Mines
Railway (red). The blue lines represent simulated rivers within the
proposed KMR layout.
