Welcome to the Copper Rail Depot and Cicely, Alaska

The new model of mythical Cicely, Alaska is to be constructed in 1:24 scale, which is roughly the same as the garden railways G-scale.  Thus every structure will be scaled at 1/2 inch equals one foot.  It is based on the very real prototype of Roslyn, Washington.

Above: County map of Washington State showing the location of Roslyn, which is in Kittikas County

Below:  Highway map showing relative location of Roslyn, WA to Seattle, WA and Portland, OR: West Pennsylvania Avenue is the heart of the small town.

Roslyn is located about 4 miles north of Cle Elum along what once was a short line to access coal mines owned by the Northern Pacific Railroad. Those coal mines are part of the real history of Roslyn, as is the NP Railway.  No reference to coal mines or railroads ever appeared in the NX series because that did not fit the story line developed for the rather strange origins of Cicely. However, I will be including elements of this part of Roslyn's history in the model of Cicely.

The railroad ran right through the middle of the little town as you see below. Those tracks are now gone, but I will be utilizing this piece of history, re-creating this aspect of Roslyn-as-Cicely. The downtown area centers on Pennsylvania Avenue between First and Second Streets.
