Layout as of 2010: The
original track was in the Tsedi-na (Chitina) / McCarthy
/ Kennecott area (red - green). This section is no
longer in use. The Tsedi-na segment and part of the
McCarthy segment has been pulled up and removed, much as
was the case with its prototype, the Chitina Branch of
the Copper River & Northwestern Railway, during the
1950s and 1960s. Today that segment is treated as
"abandoned track." This area includes significant
segments of the model towns of Kennecott, McCarthy and
Chitina as they existed in the 1920s.
The new ALCANEX Route
consists of the blue mainline and sidings going through
the model layout of Cicely and the railroad yards of
Cantwell and North Sleetmute. All of this is elevated
except for the Sulphur Springs wye, which a turn-around.
The model railroad runs only infrequently and
occasionally by request in advance for group viewing.
